New workshop

This weekend I can start using my new workshop. My attic at home is not big enough to build the main hull.

The workshop is part of a building which will be demolished, but for the time being is let to people like me who just need a place to work without any luxury. I'm really glad I found this place. Suitable workspace is hard to find in my city (The Hague, Netherlands).

The good thing about the workshop is that it's near my home (5 minutes walk) and just big enough to join the main hull but.....

the down side is that it's quite expensive and that it's on the second floor (yes, an attic again). Maybe I should call my boat 'High Build'.

I will have to figure out how to get the hull out of the workshop. It will just fit through the doors (height of doors is approximately 1,80 meter) so the hull will have to stay horizontally until it's almost out of the workshop. I'll probably cross that bridge when I get there, as usual.

Future crew member likes the workshop as well...

Case Closed

Today I closed the centerboardcase. I used some leftover putty and a piece of wood packed in plastic to completely level the flanges on the topside. I still have to put layers of glass on and under the flanges.

Working on centerboard-case.

The two halves of the centerboard-case are almost ready to be joined. I planned to coat the inner sides with coppercoat before joining, but in the end decided to wait and do it when I coat the whole underside of the boat.

I tried to figure out if it would be possible to fit the sheave assembly after joining of the halves. It seemed very difficult and probably impossible. I decided to fit the assembly before joining. I cut the sheave bolt to 7.4 cm, so it won't stick out on the outside of the case. The glass layer with which the case will be joined will close the bolt-hole. To make sure no epoxy will get stuck to the assembly I packed it in some plastic.

Centerboardcase halves

Making flanges on the centerboard case halves. My son thinks it's all very exciting.

Still bagging

I'm still bagging panels, but hope to finish the last one next week.
